Our engineering department constantly improves existing
lines, and frequently builds new lines with impressive
use of innovation and technology. Dixie Industrial recently
made the following changes to improve productivity and
control customer plating costs:
· Completely rebuilt an integral process line,
thus dropping cycle time from 7 minutes to 4 minutes—a
43% percent drop! Also increased the line’s cycle
capacity by 50% and improved the line’s “uptime” (time
spent in actual production) to 98%.
· Modified fixture development for another process
line, thereby increasing the cycle production capacity
by 100%.
· Increased capacity on its rod-plating line by
260% between 2000 and 2004, allowing Dixie’s customer
to be more competitive with imports and grow their market
share.
Clearly, when it comes to employing cutting-edge resources
to remain competitive in the global market, Dixie Industrial “talks
the talk” and “walks the walk.”
PLCs, high-speed drives and hoists, innovative fixture
designed to maximize throughput, measureables: measure
productive cycles, cycle/hour, cycle/shift, productive
cycles, non-productive cycles, real-time process control
and costs, measuring chemical use, water, electricity use,
to have a better idea of what it costs to put us into a
position where we’re more competitive (can’t
measure it, can’t manage it)
